Octapodi me krasi - Octopus in red wine Print E-mail

  • 250ml olive oil
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1kg octopus, washed well and cut in small pieces
  • 2-3 ripe tomatoes, cut in pieces
  • 1-2 carrots, cut in cubes
  • 250ml red wine
  • ½ teaspoon ground pepper
  • few peppercorns

In a medium saucepan heat the olive oil over a medium to high heat, add the onions and fry until  translucent; add octopus and cook for 10 minutes stirring constantly.

Add the tomatoes, carrots, red wine, pepper and peppercorns. Bring to the boil, cover and then simmer for 2 hours on medium heat, or until the octopus is cooked.  You might have to add some water so the octopus does not become dry.

If you have a pressure cooker the cooking time is halved.

Serve with rice.
