Lakhmatzioun - Pitta with Minced Meat and spices |

- 60ml olive oil
- 4 medium onions, finely chopped
- 500g minced beef
- ½ green pepper, finely chopped
- 3 large tomatoes, deseeded and finely chopped
- 6 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon dried mint
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon chilli powder (optional) or paprika
- 15 small round pittas
Preheat the grill to medium high.
In a medium sauce pan fry the onion in oil over a medium to high heat until translucent, add the meat and fry till it turns white. Remove from heat and add the rest of the ingredients, mixing well.
Take one half of a pitta and cover it completely with the meat mixture. Place several on a grill tray and cook for 3 minutes or until they become golden.
Care should be taken so they don’t get burned or the ingredients get very dry.
Serve with yogurt and green salad.
